This is the Place: Andris Zobs and ID Sculpture

Live

People often dream of moving to a place where they vacation, and immediately put that dream aside when they return to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Andris, like many of us here, first experienced the Gunnison Valley on a vacation. Those who are perceptive see that this is the place where both work and recreation are supported and encouraged, and so Andris moved here permanently.

Work

The importance of engaging in an activity for enjoyment, playing, is a very important part of the Gunnison Valley culture. Designing and creating playground equipment, as the many employees at ID Sculpture do, is taking this cultural aspect to another level. The impact that the playground equipment has on developing who we become later in life is not lost on these employees and provides a strong sense of purpose for the team.

Learn

Western Colorado University in Gunnison is an important piece of building a business such as ID Sculpture that relies on both artistry and computer design. Graduates from the university are an important piece of the economy in the region and with the new Computer Science and Engineering school, the strength of this resource will continue to grow.

Life/Work balance is easier in the Gunnison Valley. A world-class ski resort, more than 750 miles of singletrack biking trails, and numerous waterways for boating and fishing are all after-work or after-school activities for those who live here.

The valley has one of the top 10 high schools in Colorado. Many families have moved here because of the quality of the public school system. The public school system is also supplemented with unique educational opportunities from organizations such as the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, the Gunnison Valley Observatory, and the Adaptive Sports Center. High schoolers can also take classes at Western. These organizations are actively involved in the community and each adds complexity to the local ‘s knowledge.

Another notable attribute of this place is that the majority of the City of Gunnison lies in a federally tax incentivized Opportunity Zone. This designation encourages investment in businesses that operate here and increases growth potential.
