The ICELab @ Western is a coworking space on the campus of Western Colorado University in Gunnison. In addition to coworking memberships, the ICELab @ Western offers private offices and dedicated desks. The space serves as the setting for programming run by the ICELab, Gunnison County’s economic development organization. It’s also a meeting spot and networking hub for local small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Amenities for members

All ICELab @ Western members get full access to the coworking space—a large, sunny, second-story terrace with an open floor plan. The ICELab @ Western is furnished with a variety of desks, chairs, tables and couches.

Workspace options

Coworking space

Paneled with tall windows overlooking campus and the surrounding mountains, the coworking space at the ICELab @ Western shows off the beauty of the Gunnison Valley. Daily drop-ins, punch passes and monthly subscriptions are available. Western Colorado University students receive a special low rate. Coworking members receive free or discounted rates on reservable resources (such as the conference room).

Conference room

The conference room meeting space may be reserved by the hour. The room seats up to twelve people. A large monitor and video conferencing equipment are included. For frequent users, monthly memberships are available.

Dedicated desks

A dedicated desk gives you your own cubicle-style office space. A desk and chair are provided, or members may bring their own. Dedicated desks can be reserved by the month.

Private offices

A limited number of private offices are available for rent by the month. Private offices also come optionally furnished with a desk and chair at no extra charge. Please contact the ICELab for more information.

The bright, open coworking floor promotes creativity and collaboration. Floor-to-ceiling windows face southwest towards a stunning view of the surrounding mountains. Work solo from your choice of a standing desk or traditional desk. Alternatively, join colleagues for a casual conversation in one of the comfortable seating areas. 

Phone rooms, offices and conference room spaces allow for private meetings. They’re also quiet places to immerse yourself in deep concentration if needed.

FAQs about the ICELab @ Western

Q: How do I get on the Internet?

A: Go to your Internet networks and select “ICELab Coworking.” A window will come up with the option to sign in with your account or create an account. Fill in the applicable boxes. If you’re starting a membership, you will see a list of membership options. Once you select one, you’ll enter payment info and can start using the Internet.

Q: What if the Internet isn’t working?

A: If you’re on a VPN, try turning it off. VPNs often block our public WiFi network. If you’re not on a VPN, try rebooting your device. If that doesn’t work, call ICELab Program Manager Ben Engman at 616-893-7663, and he will help you troubleshoot.

Q: Do call rooms require a reservation?

A: No, the call rooms are first-come, first-served.

Q: Where can I take a call if all the call rooms are full?

A: You can take calls in the open coworking space.

Q: Is there assigned seating in the open coworking space?

A: No, there is no assigned seating in the open coworking space. It is all first-come, first-served.

Q: Can I connect to a monitor?

A: Yes, you can connect to monitors that are not being used.

Q: Is there a kitchen or a place to prepare food?

A: Yes, the ICELab has a kitchen. It is equipped with two fridges, tableware and utensils, cups, sink, soap, paper towels, microwave, coffee pot, toaster oven and kettle. Please clean up after yourself and wash your dishes after use.   

Q: How do I use the printer?

A: Navigate to printers on your device. Select “ICELab@Western Printer.” Follow the directions on your device to add the printer.

If you’re having issues, download the driver to your device.

Go to https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us.

Type in “C8130” in the “find a product” search bar.

Click on the result (AltaLink C8130 / C8153 / C8145 / C8155 / C8170 Color Multifunction Printer).

On the next page, click on “Drivers & Downloads.”

Choose the operating system your device is running on in the “Platform” dropdown menu and then click the “APPLY FILTERS” button.

Click the box next to “I agree to the Terms and Conditions” in the gray box under “Drivers” and then click the red “DOWNLOAD” button.

Follow your device’s instructions to download the driver onto your computer.

Please note: you must be on a paid WiFi network to use the printer.
