Did you know there are many events in Crested Butte and Gunnison? See live music, take an art class, volunteer, play trivia, watch (or participate in) a ski or bike race, and more! Check this calendar to see what’s going on.
Have you ever wanted to ice fish Blue Mesa Reservoir, Colorado’s largest body of water? Here’s your chance! Join Gunnison guides Gabby, Ema, and Erin for a weekend-long ice fishing extravaganza on iconic Blue Mesa. It’s a beautiful place to ice fish which features views of high-elevation mesas and mountains. Deer and elk are regularly seen near Blue Mesa this time of year. Also, it’s the same reservoir where the world-record lake trout was caught last year! Ice fishing is an incredible way to spend time outdoors and catch fresh fish for the dinner table during the winter. Sure, you may “just be sitting there on the ice,” which sounds a little boring at face value. However, you’ll quickly learn that ice fishing is fun, exciting, and addicting for a multitude of reasons. Gabby and Ema spend many days ice fishing Blue Mesa each year, and Erin is an incredible event host and a long-time Gunnison Valley resident. You couldn’t ask for a better crew to spend time with on the ice! No experience is required for this event. If you’ve never ice fished before, we’ll teach you the ropes!
Gunnison Valley is also host to several beloved annual events. A classic winter event is The Alley Loop, a Nordic ski race that doubles as a costume contest. In fall, Mt. Crested Butte hosts the famous Chili and Beer Festival. Every summer in Gunnison, a crowd gathers to watch America’s fourth-oldest rodeo, Cattlemen’s Days. There are also festivals in Crested Butte that celebrate local art, music, wildflowers, and more. Attending an annual event is a good way to connect with the culture of the Gunnison Valley. You might even create a new tradition for you and your family and friends!
