The Nutcracker and the Mouse King

You may be familiar with the Nutcracker ballet, but do you know the actual story on which it’s based? Firebird Theatre Co. presents The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, an original production adapted by Annie Flora and directed by local teen Maddy Carver (She Kills Monsters, Beauty and the Beast)! Featuring a cast of local CBCS students, the show is an imaginative, interactive re-telling of the tale that inspired the famous ballet. The play – which will not be a ballet – stars Addie Davis, Jack Lockman, Tati Collins, Eero Riha, Rivkah Schneider, Hayden Dunn, and Luna Petito. Playwright Annie Flora is excited to share this tale and opportunity for local kids, saying “The Nutcracker and The Mouse King is a hilarious send off to the original story written by E. T. A. Hoffmann. The villain has seven heads for reasons that nobody can understand, the family friend is a Judge but his profession is a watchmaker, a lot of questions are raised by our protagonist Marie, but none of them are ever answered. Our hero, the nutcracker, must fight the evil Mouse King and show Marie the magical kingdom that he rules over. This show has it all, comedy, battles, dancing, and lots of fun new realms to explore with exciting characters! Local teen, Maddy Carver, makes their directorial debut with this show with an all star cast of kids and teens.” The show will run live at the Majestic Theatre on December 9-10, 16-17 at 2:00pm. Annual events in Crested Butte and Gunnison
Gunnison Valley is also host to several beloved annual events. A classic winter event is The Alley Loop, a Nordic ski race that doubles as a costume contest. In fall, Mt. Crested Butte hosts the famous Chili and Beer Festival. Every summer in Gunnison, a crowd gathers to watch America’s fourth-oldest rodeo, Cattlemen’s Days. There are also festivals in Crested Butte that celebrate local art, music, wildflowers, and more. Attending an annual event is a good way to connect with the culture of the Gunnison Valley.
