The GAC is excited to present a special evening in collaboration with The Risan Project, featuring their groundbreaking Cresta Alta Film Tour. This unique event combines breathtaking expedition-based climate documentaries, engaging discussions on sustainability, and a high-energy live concert. The evening begins with a screening of Northward, a short documentary chronicling the origin of Colorado-based band Salem while touring the backcountry of Alaska, followed by Cresta Alta, an awe-inspiring film that takes viewers on a journey to Alaska, Iceland, Chile, and Peru. Salem’s members, snowboarders and skiers at heart, bring an authentic connection to the mountain lifestyle and environmental advocacy, creating a deeply resonant experience for attendees. With a focus on global environmental storytelling and a commitment to socially-conscious music, this collaboration offers a one-of-a-kind evening of film, conversation, and live music. Ticket: $30/person, $25/GAC members.
Gunnison Valley is also host to several beloved annual events. A classic winter event is The Alley Loop, a Nordic ski race that doubles as a costume contest. In fall, Mt. Crested Butte hosts the famous Chili and Beer Festival. Every summer in Gunnison, a crowd gathers to watch America’s fourth-oldest rodeo, Cattlemen’s Days. There are also festivals in Crested Butte that celebrate local art, music, wildflowers, and more. Attending an annual event is a good way to connect with the culture of the Gunnison Valley. You might even create a new tradition for you and your family and friends!
