Moonlight Concert Series: Quarter Mile Mule Saturday, February 22nd Doors 6:30 pm, Concert 7:00 pm. Quarter Mile Mule is the musical partnership of singer songwriter Chris Coady and accomplished guitarist and singer Kevin Doherty. Chris has become known for his songwriting inspired by friends, family, community and the natural environment with a sense of place – the Gunnison Valley. His songs convey positivity and transformation. Chris has released multiple albums of original songs produced by Don Richmond at Howlin’ Dog Studios. Kevin has become known for laying it down on the twelve string guitar as well as his songwriting and vocals in the band Floodgate Operators (second place finishers at the 50th Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition). He also plays keyboards and rocks the electric guitar in the band Alternative People. Chris and Kevin spent a number of years playing together in the band 9 Mile, and when that band decided to disband the two carried on as a duo called Quarter Mile Mule. The magic still happens! Rounding out the sound for Quarter Mile Mule is accomplished bassist Brian Camp. Brian was also a member of the band 9 Mile (as well as 18 Mile Radius with Chris) and he brings decades of experience and a smooth confident presence to the stage. Tickets: $20/person, $18/GAC Members
Gunnison Valley is also host to several beloved annual events. A classic winter event is The Alley Loop, a Nordic ski race that doubles as a costume contest. In fall, Mt. Crested Butte hosts the famous Chili and Beer Festival. Every summer in Gunnison, a crowd gathers to watch America’s fourth-oldest rodeo, Cattlemen’s Days. There are also festivals in Crested Butte that celebrate local art, music, wildflowers, and more. Attending an annual event is a good way to connect with the culture of the Gunnison Valley. You might even create a new tradition for you and your family and friends!
