Moonage Daydream

August 4, 2023 @ 8:00 pm

Gunnison Sunset

What could be better than this – a night under the stars, experiencing the transcendent music of David Bowie in the artistic and musical masterpiece, Moonage Daydream. That’s right: camping chairs, sleeping bags and blankets at Crested Butte Community School celebrating the first night of the Crested Butte Arts Festival and this beautiful place we live. Join us for this free presentation (donations welcome) and we'll rocket along with Major Tom for this one-of-a-kind, cinematic experience. The film, a hypnotic blend of music and art, has been called, "Visionary. Astounding. Spectacular. And pure cinema. And it’s Bowie – always light years ahead in fashion, music, and thought, and as he said himself, “Ever since I was sixteen, I was determined to have the greatest adventures any one person could have.” And he did. And so will we, under the stars, Friday night, August 4. Moonage Daydream, August 4th, 8pm, Crested Butte Community School, part of the 51st annual Crested Butte Arts Festival. See the trailer and all CBFF events at cbfilmfest.org. The 13th annual Crested Butte Film Festival is fully in-person on the streets of Crested Butte, September 27 – October 1. cbfilmfest.org

Annual events in Crested Butte and Gunnison

Gunnison Valley is also host to several beloved annual events. A classic winter event is The Alley Loop, a Nordic ski race that doubles as a costume contest. In fall, Mt. Crested Butte hosts the famous Chili and Beer Festival. Every summer in Gunnison, a crowd gathers to watch America’s fourth-oldest rodeo, Cattlemen’s Days. There are also festivals in Crested Butte that celebrate local art, music, wildflowers, and more. Attending an annual event is a good way to connect with the culture of the Gunnison Valley. You might even create a new tradition for you and your family and friends!
