The dis/ability film festival will be screened at Western Colorado University on Friday, October 4th, at 6:30 PM. Tickets are optional to purchase using the film freeway system and are used to benefit future festival operations. Our mission is to explore innovative strategies that promote inclusivity in classrooms, communities, workplaces, and other settings and to lift up human-centered stories of inclusivity through juried programming of top-tier films from around the world. We aim to increase awareness about the human-centered successes achieved when creating inclusive environments in education, communities, and workplaces. We acknowledge that issues related to social justice exist, specifically in a lack of accessible and equitable opportunities for people with disabilities. These films serve as a springboard for discussion, advocacy, and change, particularly in relation to inclusive education. We are particularly interested in films that showcase unique stories of inclusive initiatives, practices, efforts, and advocacy. Join us for our 5th year at Western Colorado University in the UC Theater!
Gunnison Valley is also host to several beloved annual events. A classic winter event is The Alley Loop, a Nordic ski race that doubles as a costume contest. In fall, Mt. Crested Butte hosts the famous Chili and Beer Festival. Every summer in Gunnison, a crowd gathers to watch America’s fourth-oldest rodeo, Cattlemen’s Days. There are also festivals in Crested Butte that celebrate local art, music, wildflowers, and more. Attending an annual event is a good way to connect with the culture of the Gunnison Valley. You might even create a new tradition for you and your family and friends!
