DESCRIPTION:Join Colorado historian Dr. Duane Vandenbusche at the Elevation Hotel for an engaging presentation on the history of skiing. Explore the rich skiing history of the Gunnison Valley through archival images and stories from the 11 lift-assisted ski resorts that have operated here from 1880 to the present\, including four ski areas in and around Crested Butte: the Pershing Mine Ski Hill\, Rozman Hill\, Pioneer (home to the first chairlift in Colorado)\, and\, of course\, the Crested Butte Ski Area. Learn about the early mailmen who carried mail on skis\, including Al Johnson and Alex Parent\, as well as the incredible feats of Crested Butte’s gelŠnde jumpers. Dr. Vandenbusche came to the Gunnison Valley in 1962 to teach history at Western and has since authored nearly a dozen books. Tickets include light aprs and non-alcoholic beverages. DESCRIPTION:Calling all caregivers of little ones\, bring yourself and your mini crew over to the museum on select Monday mornings for a free casual\, unstructured play hour with other parents and their tots before regular business hours. Geared towards kids age five and younger\, but all are welcome. Be sure to bring quarters for the train! The Museum will be closed for general admission during this playtime. The closed sign will be up on the front door but it will be unlocked. Come on in and join us in the exhibit space! Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

DESCRIPTION:This tour will be centered around the history of Taylor Park-  The Valley of the Gods. Topics will include Bomber Crash in Taylor Canyon\, Taylor Dam & the Taylor Reservoir\, Tin Cup\, Tin Cup Town Hall & Cemetery\, Dorchester\, Star & Enterprise Mines\, Rocky Brook Trail\, Deadman’s Gulch and Spring Creek. Meet in Almont in on Wednesday morning at 8am. After breakfast\, we will head out in the van to make stops along the way. A miner’s packed lunch and transport is included in the ticket price. The tour will return to Almont around 4pm. Tickets for members are $75 each and for non-members are $85 each.

DESCRIPTION:Explore a hands-on artistic process that blends historic photography and painterly expression. Participants of all ages (recommended for ages 4+) are invited to reimagine personal photos through the Polaroid lift technique-a process that delicately transfers a Polaroid print onto watercolor paper\, creating a dreamy\, hand-crafted piece of photographic art. Use your own photograph or choose one from our collections. Experience Includes: Brief history of Polaroid and instant photography Demonstration of the lift technique Individual creation time with one-on-one guidance Option to bring your own digital photo for conversion Your own piece to take home\, one per participant Space is limited so please register ahead of time. We encourage you to join us for the Historic Photography Series Walking Tour on July 7th to take photos around town that can be used to make your own Polariod lift. Tickets for members are $40 each and $45 each for non-members.
