Mt. Crested Butte lies three miles up the road from Crested Butte. It’s nestled at the base of Crested Butte Mountain, offering unparalleled access to extreme skiing and world-famous mountain biking trails. On top of the extreme sports, you’ll also find plenty of options for kids of all ages to enjoy, including live music every Wednesday night during the summer season.
Crested Butte Mountain Resort
Mt. Crested Butte is home to our favorite ski resort in the Rocky Mountains: Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Known for extreme terrain and friendly locals, Crested Butte Mountain also earned the moniker “High Church of Skiing” from the editor of Powder Magazine. No matter your level of skiing, you will find something on that mountain that will progress your skiing and challenge you.
If sliding on snow isn’t your cup of tea, check out the Adventure Center at the base area. You’ll find a climbing wall, bungee trampolines, and mini golf.
During the summer months, take a scenic chairlift ride in the summer months or zip line through the trees. If you came to mountain bike, Evolution Bike Park offers some of the best beginner-friendly downhill trails in the state. It’s a great place to go if you’re a group of mixed abilities. Hot Dogger and Awakening are green runs perfect for beginners that lead to hoots and hollers from everyone.
Mt. Crested Butte Dining
The dining scene in Mt. Crested Butte is grounded in apres ski and bike culture. You’ll find a wide variety of options from good, cheap pizza and beer to one of the Gunnison Valley’s fanciest restaurants featuring tapas and wine. On winter and early spring afternoons, you’ll find tired skiers telling tales of the day’s turns and planning for the next day. During the summer, skiers are replaced by bikers, but the vibe is the same.
The Arts Scene
Although known for its heritage of extreme sports, Mt. Crested Butte also has a thriving arts scene. The Lodge at Mountaineer Square is home to a gallery featuring the work of local artists. Summers feature the LIVE! from Mt. Crested Butte concert series every Wednesday night for 6 weeks. In 2016, the Crested Butte Music Festival will install a Spiegeltent to be a venue for their world-class music performances. In the future, the Biery Witt Center at Mt. Crested Butte will serve as a year-round live music performance hall and convention center.
