telescope at the Gunnison Valley Observatory

Gunnison Valley Observatory offers unprecedented public access to professional instruments and astronomy knowledge. Giving the public this kind of to the night sky was a defining goal of the observatory, which was a labor of love to open. With a 30-inch reflector telescope to magnify our thin and unpolluted Rocky Mountain atmosphere, a night at the Observatory is a once-in-a-lifetime experience not to be missed on your next visit to Gunnison County.

The Gunnison Valley Observatory’s regular season schedule begins in June through the middle of September on Friday’s and Saturdays. Each week offers a specialized lecture and meeting of local astronomical minds regardless of the weather conditions.
