DESCRIPTION:Firebird Theatre is holding auditions for our 2026 Shakespeare in the Park production of Much Ado About Nothing on April 18th and 19th. Co-directed by Tristan Buss and Jimmy Utley\, Shakespeare’s ultimate romantic comedy follows two pairs of lovers as they grapple with wit\, gossip\, and deceptions – both in jest and ill-intentioned – while vacationing on an estate in Messina. In-person auditions will be held between 3pm and 5pm\, with locations on the 18th at the courtyard outside the Crested Butte Town Hall and the 19th at the Gunnison Public Library respectively. Cold readings from the script will be provided to auditionees\, so no prep work is required! Performances of this show will take place on August 22nd and 23rd at the Crested Butte Depot and August 29th and 30th at the Quigley Bandshell on the Western Colorado University campus. Please come to auditions with your availability from now until the end of August to provide to the casting team. Come out to greet NASCAR’s Kyle Petty and other celebrity riders – including Richard Petty\, Matt Kenseth\, Mike Helton\, Clint Bowyer\, Ken Schrader\, Kenny Wallace\, David Ragan\, Rutledge Wood\, Rick Allen and Bill Davidson – along their nine day cross country charity motorcycle ride. This year\, the Ride is traveling more than 3\,400 miles from California to North Carolina. Considered one of the most successful and popular charity rides in the country\, the Ride raises funds and awareness for Victory Junction – a camp dedicated to providing life-changing camping experiences for children with chronic medical illnesses. Victory Junction has served as the Ride’s primary beneficiary since its establishment by Petty and his family in 2004 in honor of his late son\, Adam. Since the Ride’s inception in 1995\, more than 9\,575 riders have logged nearly 13.3 million cumulative motorcycle miles and raised more than $23 million for Victory Junction and other children’s charities. Fans are encouraged to come support the cause and greet our Riders. Be sure to get there early to cheer on the Riders as they arrive. About the book: On a scorching July afternoon in 1878\, at the dawn of the Gilded Age\, the moonÕs shadow descended on the American West\, darkening skies from Montana Territory to Texas. This rare celestial event-a total solar eclipse-offered a priceless opportunity to solve some of the solar systemÕs most enduring riddles\, and it prompted a clutch of enterprising scientists to brave the wild frontier in a grueling race to the Rocky Mountains. Acclaimed science journalist David Baron\, long fascinated by eclipses\, re-creates this epic tale of ambition\, failure\, and glory in a narrative that reveals as much about the historical trajectory of a striving young nation as it does about those scant three minutes when the blue sky blackened and stars appeared in mid-afternoon. In vibrant historical detail\, American Eclipse animates the fierce jockeying that came to dominate late nineteenth-century American astronomy\, bringing to life the challenges faced by three of the most determined eclipse chasers who participated in this adventure. WeÕll have a range of puzzle difficulties available (100\, 200\, and 300 pieces)\, making this event accessible for all experience levels. Puzzle Chess Ð A one-on-one challenge using 100-piece puzzles and a chess clock. Race against another puzzler\, compare times\, and see how you stack up. Jump in anytimeÑno formal start required. Pairs Relay Ð A crowd favorite! Teams of two compete on two puzzles\, switching every five minutes. Strategy\, communication\, and quick thinking are key as you tag in and out to complete your puzzles. Team & Pairs Competitions Ð Depending on the crowd\, weÕll also run traditional head-to-head formats with pairs (two people) or teams (four people) working together to complete puzzles as quickly as possible. May 29 will be family-friendly\, with a special welcome to youth (15 and under)\, though both events are open to all ages.
