DESCRIPTION:Firebird Theatre is holding auditions for our 2026 Shakespeare in the Park production of Much Ado About Nothing on April 18th and 19th. Co-directed by Tristan Buss and Jimmy Utley\, Shakespeare’s ultimate romantic comedy follows two pairs of lovers as they grapple with wit\, gossip\, and deceptions – both in jest and ill-intentioned – while vacationing on an estate in Messina. In-person auditions will be held between 3pm and 5pm\, with locations on the 18th at the courtyard outside the Crested Butte Town Hall and the 19th at the Gunnison Public Library respectively. Cold readings from the script will be provided to auditionees\, so no prep work is required! Performances of this show will take place on August 22nd and 23rd at the Crested Butte Depot and August 29th and 30th at the Quigley Bandshell on the Western Colorado University campus. Please come to auditions with your availability from now until the end of August to provide to the casting team. About the book: On a scorching July afternoon in 1878\, at the dawn of the Gilded Age\, the moonÕs shadow descended on the American West\, darkening skies from Montana Territory to Texas. This rare celestial event-a total solar eclipse-offered a priceless opportunity to solve some of the solar systemÕs most enduring riddles\, and it prompted a clutch of enterprising scientists to brave the wild frontier in a grueling race to the Rocky Mountains. Acclaimed science journalist David Baron\, long fascinated by eclipses\, re-creates this epic tale of ambition\, failure\, and glory in a narrative that reveals as much about the historical trajectory of a striving young nation as it does about those scant three minutes when the blue sky blackened and stars appeared in mid-afternoon. In vibrant historical detail\, American Eclipse animates the fierce jockeying that came to dominate late nineteenth-century American astronomy\, bringing to life the challenges faced by three of the most determined eclipse chasers who participated in this adventure.
