DESCRIPTION:Join Colorado historian Dr. Duane Vandenbusche at the Elevation Hotel for an engaging presentation on the history of skiing. Explore the rich skiing history of the Gunnison Valley through archival images and stories from the 11 lift-assisted ski resorts that have operated here from 1880 to the present\, including four ski areas in and around Crested Butte: the Pershing Mine Ski Hill\, Rozman Hill\, Pioneer (home to the first chairlift in Colorado)\, and\, of course\, the Crested Butte Ski Area. Learn about the early mailmen who carried mail on skis\, including Al Johnson and Alex Parent\, as well as the incredible feats of Crested Butte’s gelŠnde jumpers. Dr. Vandenbusche came to the Gunnison Valley in 1962 to teach history at Western and has since authored nearly a dozen books. Tickets include light aprs and non-alcoholic beverages. With different recipes each week\, kids learn skills to cook delicious meals that are nutritious\, organic\, and locally sourced when possible. We offer six-week sessions every fall\, winter\, and spring in both Gunnison and Crested Butte\, as well as additional workshops throughout the year. SUMMARY:Alpine Ski Tour on Crested Butte Mountain Resort
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of skiing with RMBL docents and educators at Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR)! Learn how geology and snowpack trends shape Crested Butte as a premier ski destination – and how spring runoff transforms the mountain into a wildflower paradise. The group will explore intermediate “blue” terrain off the Paradise\, Painter Boy\, and Red Lady lifts. We’ll finish the guided portion of the tour around 3:30 PM. Afterward\, participants are welcome to continue skiing or join the group back at RMBL 365 for a beverage and some social time. Participants must provide their own ski gear and have a valid CBMR lift ticket. This is a guided tour\, and all participants should be able to ski intermediate terrain independently.
