The first of a 5 part lecture series with Colorado Historian\, Duane Vandenbusche. He came to the Gunnison Valley to teach history at Western in 1962 and has authored nearly a dozen books. The 2025-2026 Winter series will showcase the history of Crested Butte\, the early days of the Gunnison Valley\, early skiing recreation history\, the importance of Camp Hale\, and the natural resources of Marble. During the mining days of Crested Butte and many other mountain towns in Colorado\, immigrants from Croatia\, Slovenia\, and elsewhere brought their native music and sounds to Crested Butte. Since then\, polka has been a way for locals to wind down and enjoy themselves. Join us for a fun filled evening of this traditional style of music and dancing! DESCRIPTION:The Crested Butte Museum’s annually-rotating\, hands-on kids’ exhibit is getting an update this January! With this exciting new concept\, our curator will be encouraging visitors to explore what makes Colorado “colorful” specifically in the Gunnison Valley\, and acknowledging the 150th birthday of the state. This interactive display is designed to reach ages 2-12 years of age\, but is engaging for guests of all ages. Focusing on local geographical features\, nature\, our amazing weather\, sunsets and the vibrant architecture on Elk Avenue\, you can look forward to “Colorful Crested Butte” providing young visitors with tactile learning experiences that enhance their enjoyment and absorption of information related to our local history\, community\, and environmental surroundings.

This workshop will review essential elements of dramatic writing in general\, and the specific conventions of the short play.
