In the last two years\, Bill McKibben traced the arrival of plentiful\, inexpensive solar energy and shows how solar power is more than just a path out of the climate crisis: it is a chance to reorder the world on saner and more humane grounds. You can’t hoard solar energy or hold it in reserves-it’s available to all. There’s no guarantee we can make this change in time\, but there is a hope-in McKibben’s eyes\, our best hope for a new civilization: one that looks up to the sun\, every day\, as the star that fuels our world.

DESCRIPTION:Join Duane Vadenbusche for an exciting slide show on the History of Crested Butte from 1860 to the present. The show is highlighted by photo’s-some never seen-and history of gold and silver mining\, D&RG narrow gauge railroad\, coal mining and ski history. The first of a 5 part lecture series with Colorado Historian\, Duane Vandenbusche. He came to the Gunnison Valley to teach history at Western in 1962 and has authored nearly a dozen books. The 2025-2026 Winter series will showcase the history of Crested Butte\, the early days of the Gunnison Valley\, early skiing recreation history\, the importance of Camp Hale\, and the natural resources of Marble.
