Described in the Gunnison Country Times as making “music for human connection”\, Chaski Quartet returns to the Gunnison County Library to perform the music of Dvorak\, Haydn\, Greenstein\, and Coleridge-Taylor as part of their 2025 Colorado tour. Other tour stops include 5 Colorado Department of Corrections facilities and Breckenridge\, CO as they perform varied programs for both classical music lovers and listeners hearing live string playing for the first time. The name Chaski Quartet was inspired by the 4th movement\, which describes the running messengers of the Andes mountains\, who would travel long distances to relay important messages and stories between communities. As musicians who commute a long way to bring music to various communities around the US\, and as runners\, the image of the chaski stuck! Shakespeare’s Athenian pastoral comedy about fairies\, donkeys\, and rude mechanicals is considered one of the Bard’s greatest works. This production is directed by Tristan Buss and will include the use of mask-work inspired by the techniques of Ancient Greek theatre and Jacques Lecoq. Filled to the brim with wonderful wit\, love triangles\, physical comedy\, and surprisingly dark turns\, Midsummer has just about anything one could want in a night at the theatre! Performances for this show\, a first for Firebird’s Shakespeare in the Park series\, will take place on both ends of the valley. Shows on the first weekend (August 23rd and 24th) will take place at our traditional location of the Crested Butte Railroad Depot while the second weekend (August 30th and 31st) will be at the Quigley Bandshell on the Western Colorado University campus. Keep in mind that this will be an outdoor show\, so be sure to bring raingear\, chairs\, and/or blankets with you! More information to follow!

DESCRIPTION:The Way of Compassion Dharma Center is located in Carbondale\, Colorado. The sister Dharma center is the Here and Now Center in Gunnison\, CO. We also serve a virtual sangha of distributed practitioners across the nation. We are a Rime (non-sectarian) Buddhist center dedicated to the cultivation of wisdom and compassion through the study of Buddhist Dharma. Every Wednesday (except Holiday weeks – please call to check) from 6:00- 7:30 pm join us and our spiritual director John Bruna for a guided meditation and talk with time for questions. This is a live Zoom broadcast that we watch on a projector as a group from Gunnison. Chairs\, meditation cushions\, and bathroom provided.
