The Academy Awards are upon us! To celebrate, Crested Butte Film Festival is bringing two programs of Oscar-Nominated Short Films to the Majestic Theatre on March 10 and 11, leading up to the live telecast of The Oscars on Sunday night, March 12. As always, these Oscar-Nominated short films provide an entertaining and enlightening view into our world through the lens of Documentary and Live Action filmmaking. The ten nominated films (five in each category) represent the very best short films produced in the last year and offer us a wonderful opportunity for us to be uplifted by the people, events, and stories they tell. The fun begins on March 10th at 7:30pm with the perennial audience favorite: Oscar-Nominated Documentary Short Films. Films included in the program and vying for the Oscar are: THE ELEPHANT WHISPERERS from India, HAULOUT from the UK, HOW DO YOU MEASURE A YEAR? and THE MARTHA MITCHELL EFFECT, from the USA, and also STRANGER AT THE GATE, USA, which played at last year’s Crested Butte Film Festival. The running time of the program is two hours, forty-six minutes. The following night, March 11th, it’s Oscar-Nominated Live Action Shorts starting at 7:30. This year’s 115 minute program offers beautiful, dramatic, moving performances in films (all subtitled) from the UK (AN IRISH GOODBYE) Denmark (IVALU) Italy (LE PUPILLE) Norway (NIGHT RIDE) and Luxembourg THE RED SUITCASE by CBFF alumni, Cyrus Neshvad. These are incredible programs of films and CBFF is honored to bring them to you in conjunction with The Majestic Theatre. Tickets are $17 for a single night or $30 for an Oscar Pass to both. FRI March 10 | 7:30 – 10pm | Oscar-Nominated Documentary Shorts SAT March 11 | 7:30 – 10pm | Oscar-Nominated Live Action Shorts Tickets and additional information are available at cbfilmfest.org. The 13th Annual Crested Butte Film Festival happens IN PERSON September 27 – October 1.
Gunnison Valley is also host to several beloved annual events. A classic winter event is The Alley Loop, a Nordic ski race that doubles as a costume contest. In fall, Mt. Crested Butte hosts the famous Chili and Beer Festival. Every summer in Gunnison, a crowd gathers to watch America’s fourth-oldest rodeo, Cattlemen’s Days. There are also festivals in Crested Butte that celebrate local art, music, wildflowers, and more. Attending an annual event is a good way to connect with the culture of the Gunnison Valley. You might even create a new tradition for you and your family and friends!
