Miner’s Ball

Join us at the Big Mine Ice Arena, the historic site of the Big Mine, for the 2022 Miner’s Ball for a roller skating party on Friday, September 30th! Dress up as your favorite historic character for a chance to win awesome prizes from the museum. Need some inspiration for your costume? Come visit the museum to explore our exhibit area for only $5 to study up and pick your favorite character: Captain Ellen Jack? Al Johnson? A Jokerville Miner? Kochevar’s Barkeep? A lady of the night from Crested Butte’s red light district back in the mining days? We’ll also be asking a couple of history trivia questions that relate to information found in our exhibits for some great prizes as well, so study up before the event! This event will be BYOB, and we will have Log Dawg Weiner Wagon on site selling hot dogs, chips, and soda. We highly encourage bringing your own rollerskates since we will have a limited amount available to rent. We’ll have a live DJ for skating around to, and all proceeds will benefit our non-profit history museum. Family Skate: 5pm-6pm, Open Skate: 6pm-10pm $10 Members, $15 Non-Members Non-Member ticket pre-sales include 1 free day entry to the Crested Butte Museum to study up on historic characters and CB history for a chance to win awesome prizes for our pop-trivia!

Annual events in Crested Butte and Gunnison

Gunnison Valley is also host to several beloved annual events. A classic winter event is The Alley Loop, a Nordic ski race that doubles as a costume contest. In fall, Mt. Crested Butte hosts the famous Chili and Beer Festival. Every summer in Gunnison, a crowd gathers to watch America’s fourth-oldest rodeo, Cattlemen’s Days. There are also festivals in Crested Butte that celebrate local art, music, wildflowers, and more. Attending an annual event is a good way to connect with the culture of the Gunnison Valley. You might even create a new tradition for you and your family and friends!
