Hike Soap Creek
September 9, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Hike to Soap Creek with High Country Conservation Advocates
Join the Gunnison Public Lands Initiative and High Country Conservation Advocates, on a free, guided hike to Soap Creek on September 9th!
Soap Creek is proposed for a Wilderness addition in the initial GPLI proposal. With elevations ranging from 7,760 feet to 12,200 feet, the GPLI aims to protect low to high elevations for big game migration routes and maintain the area’s high-quality wilderness character.
The Soap Creek Trail starts at 8,840 feet in elevation and climbs steadily, following Soap Creek for about 1.5 miles. The trail continues north along a ridge east of Soap Creek for approximately 2 miles before it descends into the drainage and again follows the Soap Creek. The trail ascends out of the Soap Creek drainage traveling through conifer, aspen, and incredible geological rock features. In total, the trail will climb approximately 1,320 feet in elevation and be 6 miles round trip.
We plan on being out until early in the afternoon, so please come prepared with hiking gear, water, lunch, sunscreen, insect repellent and anything else you need. We will meet at 9:00 am in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Gunnison to carpool to the trailhead.
