Gunnison Sage-Grouse Habitat Restoration Weekend
September 4 @ 8:00 amFree
We need your help in stewarding our public lands! High Country Conservation Advocates (HCCA) invites community members to give back to the public lands they love this Labor Day weekend by participating in a collaborative habitat restoration project that focuses on supporting the local Gunnison Sage-Grouse population. We will provide equipment, gloves, lunch, water, coffee from Mountain Maid Coffee, and beer following the workdays from Zuni Brewing! Volunteers will spend time building rock structures to improve critical habitat for the Gunnison Sage-Grouse. We will use innovative, yet simple, restoration methods, specifically small rock structures to raise the water table to support plants and insects needed by wildlife. Wet meadows and riparian areas in sagebrush shrublands provide important brood-rearing habitat for the threatened Gunnison Sage-Grouse. These habitats are also important for numerous other species, including neo-tropical migratory birds, elk and mule deer, as well as for ranchers for livestock grazing. Register on our website (hccacb.org) to participate for one, two, or all three workdays!
